Hi all

This is a request for help. I am looking for the *best* (?)
version the boys did of The Weight. It would be coolest if it was a AUD so i can put in in my collection but streaming it would be fine as well. Thanks for the archive and advance thanks to all who can help!!

Peace:Skippy

The first and best one I saw. I thought they nailed the vocals ( as much as the Grateful Dead can )

Damn. I had totally forgotten about this show. I shroomed my face-off at this one w/ my cousin John(not you JOTS!). Drove(like a 19 year-old idiot would) my '67 Vee-Dub home and watched the lights twinkle on the Deadset album cover. Cool double album cover art.....

Took my buddy Frank to 12/4 and had a nice time....at least I have some memory of 12/4.........12/3 is just faint flashback!

I was enhanced myself. I recall the first night being better but EVERYONE I know liked the second one better. All I know is there were way more smiles from the band the first night and there's no SBD in existence that I know of for the first night. This was of course as you know strange to only have a two instead of three night stand. This was the first time I saw the band after Hornsby and I was a wary to say the least but Bruce was the shit. Oh how wrong I was.

I was Hornsby fan previously, so I was stoked to hear him w/ GD. I,too, like night 1 better. I've had the tape of night 2....I was just too tired for nite 2....did not have the greatest time. Caught a glimpse of the darkside on 12/4.

I liked " the Way it is" but that was it. I had seen him and the Range open up for John Fogerty and they put me to sleep. I didn't NOT like him but I wasn't expecting to be floored. Not having the privelege of seeing the band in the Keith era to me that majestic grande brought back something that was missing. All the midi stuff was fine and all but what can beat the old days? Bob's hollow body, Phil sounding more prominant with only four strings, etc. ramble ramble

I didn't have a bad night the next night, but I was a little burnt too.

I don't have the recordings but remember a beauty from the summer of 90 west coast tour. I think in Shorline it was the first time I'd heard it maybe but I remember it went over really well and gave us a perma-grin all the way up the Oregon so you might want to check that one.

Don't know about "best," but the version from Brent's last show is probably the most touching.

Brent's last words on stage were "I gotta go, but my friends can stick around." Always give me goosebumps.

Peace to you as well Skippy.

Dude why is it they always played the best encores at McNichols. Check out 12-2-3-92 jerry recovery show encores there.

If you can tolerate froggy jerry try 12-31-90 with Branfrod. Much like LTGTR, I always like versions of the weight that had a little jam between the 2nd and 3rd verse. Don't know why they axed it

Check out this AUD version. Second set opener. Hornsby does Brents lines. Maybe not the best but the the audience reactions are precious. Another spine tingler.

(The naming convention is off and The Weight is Tuning and PITB is The Weight. You'll figure it out.)

I flew in for California to see Bruce's first night. The second set opener of the weight with BH taking Brent's vocal was very nice. Also, a "nice effort" on Gimme Some Lovin but that's one I'm glad they retired in honor of Mydland.
